Celebrating Disability Pride Month: Honouring Strength, Dignity, and Diverse Abilities

This July, the Vocational Mental Health Practitioners Association Australia (VMHPAA) proudly celebrates Disability Pride Month, a time to recognise the strength, diversity, and dignity of individuals living with disability across Australia and beyond.

Disability Pride Month is more than awareness, it’s about celebrating identity, advocating for accessibility, and amplifying the voices of those who live with visible and invisible disabilities.

At VMHPAA, we honour the powerful role that vocationally trained practitioners - including peer support workers, community mental health workers, and lived experience professionals - play in delivering inclusive and person-centred support to individuals with disability every single day.

“Disability Pride Month reminds us that ability doesn’t look just one way. Dignity, strength, resilience, they’re not always visible. But they’re always worth celebrating. This month, we don’t just speak about inclusion we live it, work it, and advocate for it in every part of our practice.”  Shane Warren, Chair, VMHPAA

VMHPAA remains committed to promoting accessible mental health services and supporting the practitioners who stand at the frontlines of inclusive care.

Let’s use this month to keep breaking down barriers, challenging stigma, and standing in proud solidarity with the disability community.
