World Mental Health Day 2025 — Breaking Stigma, Building Hope
World Mental Health Day 2025 — Breaking Stigma, Building Hope

Today, the Vocational Mental Health Practitioners Association of Australia (VMHPAA) joins the global community in recognising World Mental Health Day - a day to unite around awareness, action, and empathy for all people navigating mental health challenges.

This year’s theme centres on breaking stigma and strengthening access to support, reminding us that mental health is not a privilege, it’s a universal human right.

“Hope begins when conversations start,” said Shane Warren, Chair of VMHPAA. “Every time we speak openly about mental health - at work, at home, or in our communities - we dismantle stigma and build pathways to connection and care. No one should ever feel alone in their struggle.”

VMHPAA highlights that access to compassionate, qualified mental health support must be equitable whether through vocationally trained counsellors, peer support workers, psychologists, or community practitioners. Collectively, these professionals form a vital network of care that ensures help is available where it’s needed most.

On this World Mental Health Day, VMHPAA calls on all Australians to:

  • Reach out and check in with someone who might be struggling.

  • Practice self-care and prioritise your own wellbeing.

  • Advocate for inclusive, community-based mental health systems that meet people where they are.

Together, we can build a culture of understanding, hope, and new beginnings.
