MEDIA RELEASE / AWARENESS STATEMENT
For Immediate Release
14th June 2026

On World Blood Donor Day, the Vocational Mental Health Practitioners Association of Australia (VMHPAA) recognises the extraordinary generosity of blood donors whose selfless acts save lives every single day.
Behind every blood donation is a simple yet profound act of kindness. A single donation can support people undergoing cancer treatment, recovering from trauma, facing major surgery, living with chronic illness, or experiencing medical emergencies.
Blood donors rarely meet the people whose lives they help, yet their contribution creates hope for individuals, families, and entire communities.
VMHPAA Chair Shane Warren said:
"Giving blood is one of the simplest ways we can demonstrate compassion for people we may never know. It reminds us that healthy communities are built on generosity, connection, and the willingness to help one another. Small acts of kindness can have life-changing consequences." [Shane Warren]
Research continues to demonstrate that volunteering and contributing to the wellbeing of others can also strengthen our own mental health. Acts of service foster purpose, social connection, and a sense of belonging all recognised protective factors for psychological wellbeing.
VMHPAA Secretary Susan Sandy added:
"Hope often begins with ordinary people choosing to do something extraordinary. Blood donors quietly remind us that caring for one another is one of the strongest foundations of a resilient and compassionate community." [Susan Sandy]
World Blood Donor Day is an opportunity to thank those who already donate and to encourage others who are able to consider becoming donors.
Every donation represents more than blood it represents hope, generosity, and the belief that every life has value.
Together, we can continue building communities where compassion is measured not only by our words, but by our actions.
